“Drive to Survive”

Drive to Survive” (Course 1) is a practical one day defensive driving course teaching accident avoidance, car control and defensive driving skills.

As a result drivers become aware of their abilities, shortcomings and develop new skills.  Drivers also have an opportunity to review their attitude. So that they realise how this contributes to safe driving.

This course is the most important course offered by the school. The course is suitable for any licensed driver of a car, utility, or other light vehicle.  Which is particularly relevant for experienced drivers who drive regularly as part of their occupation.

The course is a car control course comprising of 50/50 classroom to practical exercises.

This course will help drivers develop a risk averse attitude to driving, develop avoidance skills in emergency situations.  All this is done in a controlled and safe environment.

As a result this course is suitable for any driver with a licence, driving any car, van, ute or 4WD.

Overall Objective

The overall objective of the “Drive to Survive” course is to help develop an accident avoidance attitude.

The course instructs participants in the best practice seating position, visual searching, emergency braking and hazard awareness to enable maximum control and performance of the vehicle.

Course Schedule

The day begins at 8.30am with registration and finishes at approximately 4.00pm with a presentation of certificates.

The course consists of a 50/50 mix of practical and classroom sessions and is suitable for all licenced drivers regardless of age or experience.

  • Vehicle maintenance.
  • Correct driver seating position.
  • Hazard identification, searching and steering.
  • Emergency braking techniques.
  • Reversing and parking techniques.
  • Skid avoidance, avoiding loss of control, vehicle positioning on the road.
  • Corner preparation and cornering skills.
  • Defensive driving principles and managing distractions.
  • A review of key elements of the road code.
Course 1 - Individual Coaching

Individual Coaching

We will provide several attempts at practical exercises and give feedback throughout the course. We will also provide you with opportunities to learn by observing and analysing other drivers’ performances.

Course 1 - Reports

Reports

You will receive vehicle reports covering the condition of the vehicle, combined with your personal Skills Assessment Reports.

These reports are sent to the booking coordinators and participants along with digital certificates.  This enables Fleet Managers to get feedback on vehicle condition and Management to have feedback on course performance.
